Inside Out Reentry Community serves people returning to Johnson County after incarceration. Founded in late 2014 as a project of First Baptist Church (now known as Spirit of Christ Church) of Iowa City, IO became an independent non-profit a year later in late 2015 with their incorporation and 501c(3) certification from the IRS.

As a reentry community they provide a safe and nonjudgmental environment for individuals to get support during their transition back into our community. They help individuals develop personalized reentry plans, offer a drop-in resource center, provide case management and mentoring, assist with finding employment and housing, offer weekly peer recovery and community meetings, access to community resources, opportunities to serve the community and much more. Their mission is to support people involved in the criminal legal system and educate the public in order to promote healing, restore relationships and reduce recidivism. Their vision is for people involved in the criminal legal system to achieve the greatest possible success with the support of their community.

By joining the Chamber, Inside Out hopes to increase their connections with the community, and other area businesses and nonprofits. Executive Director Michelle Heinz says, We are especially interested in partnering with more landlords and employers in our community so we can better connect the individuals we work with to available opportunities.
