CLP was created in 1990 to foster informed, well-equipped, and invested leaders in the Iowa City area. The program features ten full-day sessions that take place from September through June. Each session explores a specific theme, like Agriculture & Environment, Arts & Culture, Local Government, and Economics.

Liz Hubing, a member of the Class of 2019-2020 says, CLP has opened my eyes to all aspects of our community. So often, we go about our lives cruising in our own lane, but CLP encourages you to think more broadly learning about things such as the intricacies of our local government, the impact of our human service agencies, the evolving role of the education system, and much more.

The Community Leadership Program Class of 2020-2021 is scheduled to start August 27. We are hopeful and optimistic that we will be able to proceed with the 30th CLP class, with appropriate precautions in place. We will continue to monitor our local situation throughout the application and selection process. If we are not able to provide the high-quality, community-based experience that has come to be the signature of the Community Leadership Program, we are ready to adapt. A stellar participant experience is always our goal, but participant safety is our first priority.

All applications must be received by 4:30 PM on Monday, June 15th, 2020.
